Labour Budget Announces £1 Billion Budget To Tackle Cladding Crisis.
28/10/2024
On Wednesday 30th October, the Labour government unveiled its first budget in nearly 15 years, announcing £1 billion to remediate unsafe cladding across the UK. After seeing the devastating effects of cladding-related fires, the government has committed to addressing the long-standing safety issues in thousands of buildings across the country.
The new budget will fund immediate remediation efforts to eliminate unsafe cladding on residential buildings over the next year. Current estimates indicate that of the 4,613 residential buildings over 11 meters with hazardous cladding, only half have completed remediation work, leaving over 2,300 buildings vulnerable. The cladding on these structures has been identified as a critical fire hazard, posing serious safety risks to residents.
Worryingly, the National Audit Office (NAO) has estimated that 7,000 buildings across England with dangerous cladding have yet to be identified; some might never be. Additionally, the total costs to complete all cladding remediation projects are expected to be around £16.6 billion, but the NAO department estimates range from £12.6 billion to £22.4 billion, much more than the £1 billion the government has set aside. In the face of these daunting numbers, A S Ramsay Group is working tirelessly to help reduce these distressing numbers, ensuring that every project brings us closer to a safer future for residents across the UK.
